Illegal IPL Streaming Case involving Tamannaah Bhatia and Badshah

The Viacom 18 broadcasting rights for the popular cricket tournament were not granted to the app, resulting in significant losses for the broadcaster due to alleged illegal streaming. This platform, called FairPlay, is primarily aimed at the Indian audience and serves as a free betting platform on both Android and iOS devices. It features various sports and leisure gambling options, with a special focus on cricket, football, and tennis. Live streaming of all sporting events can be accessed through FairPlay for the convenience of players who can “watch and win at the same time”, as stated on their website. The app is affiliated with Mahadev online gaming, which offers platforms for unauthorized betting on live games such as cricket, poker, badminton, tennis, football card games, and chance games. Last year, actors Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor appeared in advertisements for this app and were later questioned by agencies like Enforcement Directorate (ED). Further scrutiny was initiated after a wedding in the UAE worth ₹200 crore was reportedly funded in cash through Mahadev’s services.

This is a case of illegal streaming of the Indian premier league through the FairPlay application which was not authorized by Viacom 18, which owned exclusive broadcast rights for the popular cricket tournament. The actors/actresses involved in the case are accused of promoting and endorsing the FairPlay app.

According to reports, Viacom 18 suffered significant losses due to illegal streaming. The FairPlay app, specifically designed for the Indian market, operates as a free betting platform on both Android and iOS devices. This platform offers a variety of sports and entertainment options for leisure gambling, with cricket being the most popular followed by football and tennis. Users can stream all matches live on FairPlay while playing for the chance to win. FairPlay is owned by Mahadev online gaming application, which also offers illegal betting on games such as cricket, football card games, tennis, and chance games. The involvement of Shraddha Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor in ads for the Mahadev app made news last year and resulted in them being summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning.

In February last month, the Rs 200-crore wedding in UAE caught the attention of probe agencies. This extravagant event, which was paid entirely in cash, led to investigations being conducted on the app involved. As a result, Maharashtra cyber cells summoned several individuals for questioning, including Tamannaah Bhatia, Sanjay Dutt, singer Badshah, Sanjay Dutt’s manager, and Jacqueline Fernandez. Recently, actor Tamannaah Bhatia was also asked to appear before the authorities regarding alleged promotion of matches on a subsidiary app of Mahadev online gaming and betting application. The actor is known for her work in films like Baahubali and Lust Stories 2. In addition to this, Kangana Ranaut has revealed that she too was approached by the promoters of Mahadev app for a lucrative endorsement deal but she declined and even warned other Bollywood celebrities about associating with the app due to ongoing investigations by agencies like Enforcement Directorate (ED). ED is currently investigating the involvement of various celebrities like Ranbir Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha in promoting or performing at events organized by Mahadev app’s promoters and others linked to it. Kangana Ranaut shared her experience stating that she has been approached multiple .

Kangana Ranaut recently revealed that she had been approached multiple times by the promoters of the Mahadev app for a lucrative advertisement deal. She strongly criticized Bollywood celebrities who have been linked to the online betting scandal involving the app. The Enforcement Directorate is currently investigating the matter and has summoned many celebrities, including Ranbir Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha, who have either promoted or performed at events for the app’s promoters or other involved parties. Kangana shared a news article about this on her Instagram Stories, where she mentioned that she had repeatedly turned down their offer despite it being increased several crores each time. She emphasized that integrity is crucial in today’s society and advised others to improve themselves before being forced to do so. Recently, actor Ranbir Kapoor was issued a summon by the ED and he has requested one week’s time to appear at their office in Raipur for questioning regarding his alleged promotion of the Mahadev betting app. There are many celebrities who are involve in this case since 2023
